I have a deep love of the natural world which began as a child on family walks on the beach and in the pinewoods and country lanes of my native town of Formby on the Sefton Coast. I have since been fortunate to spend most of my working life outdoors in beautiful places both as an outdoor education instructor and as one of the National Park rangers in the Lake District. . Now retired, I live in Kendal on the edge of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks and have the time to indulge my passions. My paintings are inspired by wildlife and wild places. I am at my happiest walking my dog with a camera round my neck and a sketchbook in my rucksack. Some of the material from these walks may then be developed into paintings in my studio.
Holidays are spent mostly in the mountains and on the coast with Scottish islands, the Dolomites and the Pyrenees being particular favourites. While on holiday I keep a sketchbook diary which provides a lovely reminder of some magic days.
